OK we have all seen Brent's idea. This is an idea I have come up with. You see WSL currently has a problem with too many 1 year contracts. I mean ARod and Manny will just bounce around from team to team. They will go to whoever has 25 million to throw their way that year. So I have come up with a formula to try and limit the 1 year deals. This is a way to make it so that a player would choose a 3 year 60 million deal over a 1 year 23 million deal.
Ok first off:
X=Numbers of years in the deal Y=$$$ per year Z=Weight
The weights are:
1 year = .85 2 year = 1.06 3 year = 1.12 4 year = 1.18 5 year = 1.24 6 year = 1.30
The formula is: XY(Z) X
This allows multi-year deals to be preferred over 1 year deals. Let me know feedback on this idea. The number it spits out is the weight ONLY. So if you are bidding 3 years at 20 million per year and the weighted average is 22.4 you are still paying just 20 million. Whereas if someone bids 20 million for 1 year. They are paying 20 million, but their weighted average is 17 million. So the 3 year deal wins easily.
This is open to suggestion. We still presume that people will give one year deals and vastly overpay somewhat. I mean a player like Roger Clemens. It would be crazy to sign him for 4 years, whereas a player like Manny needs to be locked up for several years.

Please, feel free to find holes in this process.

i'm fucking terrible at math but I like the idea of out doing a 1 year deal. I'd hate to see all these good players signed just for one year cause some bone head owner is going to spend way to much money for just a year

I like this formula...I think it will do away with the overbidding by some teams.
Now my questions is....Do we want to incorporate this into a new bidding process or just the old blind bidding???
